Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960s, found as partial deadstock roll.

Fabric Description: Deadstock, never used, Japanese vintage Kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric from the 1960s.

Fabric Type: Kasuri (ikat), lightweight, slightly translucent, stiff; dark indigo background color fabric with rows of geometric figures as foreground, pink and pale blue, with gray parallel strokes as background rows (view close-ups); there are also small (3/8 inch / 9.53mm tall) yellow equal signs; same on both sides.

This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here. Japanese ikats are generally weft ikats or double ikats.
